people can turn in an unlimited amount of pictures.....BUT you can only win one prize.....so if you have two pictures youd like to submit, even if they are like uber fantastic.. you can't win both first and second....youll only win one prize....

Ok here is mine... sorry if it looks too 'sketchy'... all my drawings end up that way.

Wow those entries are really pretty ^_^

Hlc, I really like your style of drawing and the expression of your characters. Yannick, I like the idea of combining a screenshot for the background .

OH and Emikxone, I think you should mention on GWonline that the contest is still on but that you will be unavailable to check for a while. Good luck with things btw

Anyways, nice job all

Ive gotta ask... what tools do you guys use to color your pictures... photoshop? and if so is there a good online guide for it? I would like to start turning my 'sketches' into comic book style art.

I use photoshop, this is my third drawing colored with it though. I'ved used paint shop pro before that. steps are the same notherless. Photoshop is just a bit more refined.

Basicly here are my steps:
- Scan the drawing/make the scetch
- Make a layer group above the drawing
- Put it on multipy, this will make your color's go under the lines but above the white background.
- Put a layer inside the layergroup, just keep it on normal.
- Get the brush and eraser and start coloring. I recomend putting each differant color or area on a differant layer. This will make shading a bit easier later on. I recomend a brush with 60-80% hardness for the bit sharper lines, the smaler the brush the lower the hardness basicly.
- Once done get the dodge/burn tool, this is what I use for shading. dodge for lighter, burn for darker. basicly hold down alt for the burn option.
- Sometimes I get the brush at a low Opacity to touch up the color's.

there, that are my basic steps for coloring drawings Hope it helps a bit.

Okay, I'm in. Things have slowed down here with school out, so I have plenty of time to work on this now.

I use Photoshop, Painter or Open Canvas. Photoshop is the most well-known of the programs, Painter is popular with all the big artists for getting a really "painted" kind of look to your drawings (it focuses pretty much only on painting, whereas Photoshop can be used for other things) and Open Canvas is something only a few seem to have heard about. It focuses on getting a watercolour-kind of style, and is also used only for painting.

Yannick summed up the steps quite well. The only harder thing you really need to learn is how to use layers, and even that shouldn't take long.
Controlling the flow and opacity of your brush is also quite important. It will help you get a smooth, painted look if you choose strong, dark colours and then pick the middle colours from the drawing itself using the dropper. Dodge/burn tool is good for some parts in drawings, but personally I rarely ever use it because it tends to leave the image looking a little flat and the shadows/highlights without any distinguishing colours. Dodge and burn is used sometimes in comic style colouring, but rarely ever in painting style works.

Hmm... maybe I should turn my next commission drawing into a tutorial...

And to keep this in topic... wow, amazing entries from people! I will definitely need to get something done, even if I'd only have time to do a sketch.

Thanks guys !

claw- I usually use Photoshop 7 or Open Canvas 3. For this one I did the painting parts in OC and put the texture and text on in PS.

I have a photoshop tutorial-- at least one to get the coloring started.

Well, I have resigned myself to winning anywhere near the top 3 in this contest(there are so many pretty/great pieces >.<)
....but, I spent my free time doing a sketch for my piece, so I guess I'll just finish it anyways .

Btw Emikxone, this is what I meant with my earlier posts about "concept"

Here ya go:

A few notes:
- Yes those dragons are "supposed" to be Glint and Kuunavang in an undead state revived by the all-mighty necros  (yes I know no necro can have neither as a minion but still)
- That stuff coming out of the male necro's mouth in the bottom is blood not drool >.<
- The top characters are purposely left sketched so they fade in more with the backgroud once the color kicks in....hopefully
- My glint proportions are all wrong but I tried doing her in that pose with the ones in game(ie front legs bigger hind ones smaller and a much large head/neck) and it wasn't really nice so I decided to modify her anatomy a bit
- I tried to give the male necro a more sadistic feeling like you said in your description and tried for a more cold/emotionless feel for the female one.

*sigh* only coloring left now >.< Oh such work, I must find time. *runs away to free up schedule*

Anyways, just an update on my current entry. Oh and Emikxone, if you don't feel this is what you'er looking for, I'm planning on making another entry which is more "traditional" if you want.

Kay
